Ringworld by Larry Niven (audiobook narrated by Tom Parker) - Paul's Pre-Reading

Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Goodreads | Audible

Title: Ringworld
Author: Larry Niven
Year Published: 1970

Narrator: Tom Parker
Audiobook Length: 11 hours 22 minutes

Synopsis: Pierson's puppeteers, strange, three-legged, two-headed aliens, have discovered an immense structure in a hitherto unexplored part of the universe. Frightened of meeting the builders of such a structure, the puppeteers set about assembling a team consisting of two humans, a puppeteer and a kzin, an alien not unlike an eight-foot-tall, red-furred cat, to explore it. The artefact is a vast circular ribbon of matter, some 180 million miles across, with a sun at its centre - the Ringworld. But the expedition goes disastrously wrong when the ship crashlands and its motley crew faces a trek across thousands of miles of the Ringworld's surface.

Why?: I have been trying to gradually increase my classic sci-fi repertoire. I've been reading a lot more modern sci-fi, but I wanted to find something older. After subscribing to Audible, I found Ringworld. This book was published in 1970. I also remember listening to the Sword & Laser podcast when they read it some time last year.

Expectations: I know this is an older book, so I'm not expecting extremely modern themes. But, I still hope this book hasn't staled with the times. I'm hoping for a good classic sci-fi novel.

Judging a book by its cover: This cover is pretty simple, but it looks cool. I like how the title is done like the inside of a ring.
